**Update 22 October 2024. Geneious version 2025 now includes the core_nt database as default**
As of August 2024, NCBI Blast will be using a new default nucleotide search database core_nt.
In summary, the new database:
•Enables faster searches
•Returns similar top results for most searches
•Reduces redundancy for some highly represented organisms
•Allows easier download and requires less storage for database download for standalone BLAST
Geneious Prime currently defaults to the previous nt database, but you can add the new database by going to Tools > Blast > Add/Remove Databases > Setup Blast Services and then selecting "Edit Databases" under the NCBI service.
When adding the new database, the database name must be core_nt
Other fields can be customised to your preference, but cannot be empty.
