We have discovered an issue with the new Geneious Prime 2025.0.1 full release that affects some of our Windows and Linux users. After installing the new version, when they try to run Geneious Prime, they see the below error message instead:
Our team has created a fix for this issue and will release a new patched version shortly. For the moment, we have removed Geneious Prime 2025.0.1 from our website and stopped other versions of Geneious Prime downloading it automatically. This error will not affect any data.
If you updated to this version while it was live and have found yourself in the above error state, doing one of these options should allow to continue working with Geneious Prime:
- Find your Geneious Prime installation directory and delete the file there called Geneious.in.use.vmoptions. This should allow Geneious Prime to open and run normally.
- If option 1 doesn’t work, uninstall Geneious Prime from your computer manually (instructions), then download a different version of Geneious Prime from our website and install it normally.
- Downloading and installing a different version of Geneious Prime into a different location on your computer will also let you continue using Geneious Prime.
Common Geneious Prime installation directories:
- Windows: C:\Program Files\Geneious Prime, C:\Program Files (x86)\Geneious Prime
- Linux: /opt/Geneious_Prime, /home/your_user_name/Geneious_Prime
