non-plugin programmatic access to Shared Database data

Is there a way in Geneious Prime or with another Geneious product like Geneious Server to programmatically access data from a Shared Database without writing a plugin?

The scenario I'm thinking of is writing a service which runs on a scheduled basis to either import or export data from a Shared Database.

I realize I could write a plugin to access the data but that would mean a person would have to be involved to invoke it at scheduled times during the day.
