1. Make sure you have the appropriate license type
A Geneious Cloud workspace is included with all new user-based subscriptions purchased through the website from 21 March 2024. If you are on a legacy license type that does not have access to Geneious Cloud please contact us to discuss options for updating to our new subscription plans.
2. Update to the most recent version of Geneious Prime
Make sure you are on the latest version of Geneious Prime by selecting Help → Check for Updates in the menu. Geneious Cloud is only available on Geneious Prime 2024.0 or later and we are continuously making improvements.
3. Login or Sign Up
Select Cloud on the left-hand side of Geneious Prime. If you already have a Geneious Prime MyAccount you can Login with this email and password.
If you do not have a MyAccount setup you can Create a New Account from the Geneious Prime My Account Page. You can find this page under "Sign In" on the www.geneious.com website:
4. Import data
To begin working in Geneious Cloud, import data by your preferred method (drag and drop, Add in the toolbar, File → Import in the menu) into the My Data folder or create a new folder. No data can be directly imported into the ☁️ Cloud or ☁️ Workspace folders.
⚠️ Note that data in your Local Database is not automatically added to Geneious Cloud.
5. Backing up data
Data in Geneious Cloud is stored securely on the cloud so is already backed up by us. However, we recommend also keeping an offline backup. To do this, either keep a copy of your data in the Local database or export your Geneious Cloud folders to Geneious format.
If you delete data in Geneious Cloud, you will be notified that the data will be moved to your 'Deleted items' folder.
Documents within the Cloud Database deleted items folder will be cleared after 30 days. You can view the expiration date of documents within the Deleted Items folder (this does not apply to local documents).
However, if you delete items from the Deleted Items folder, you will be notified that they are being permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
