What is Geneious Cloud Database
Geneious Cloud Database provides access to 10GB free, secure, cloud data storage from the Geneious Prime desktop application. This will allow you to access your data from different computers you are using Geneious Prime on (ex : work and home computer). For this version of Geneious Cloud Database, you need to be on a Personal Academic or a Personal Student License and have MyAccount login. What Geneious Cloud Database is not
With Geneious Cloud Database, is the Geneious Prime program running in a browser?
No - Geneious Prime is a desktop application. The current Geneious Cloud Database gives you access to 10GB of free, secure, data storage. Data you have stored in Geneious Cloud Database is currently only accessible via the Geneious Prime desktop application. Computation is currently still performed locally on your computer.
Is Geneious Cloud Database the same as the Shared Database/GSDB hosted on the cloud?
No - Shared Database/GSDB are server databases. These can be hosted on a cloud if your organization has the IT expertise to set this up and maintain it.
Sharing data with Geneious Cloud Database
Can we use Geneious Cloud Database to share data with colleagues?
No - Geneious Cloud Database does not yet support data sharing. However, if Shared Cloud Workspace is a feature you would find useful, please contact us.
Can we use Geneious Cloud Database to share data with colleagues that do not use Geneious Prime?
No - if this is a feature you would find useful, please contact us.
Geneious Cloud Database storage
Does this support storing NGS data?
Technically, yes. However, the current version of Geneious Cloud Database performs analysis locally on your computer, so you still require enough memory to temporarily store and analyze this data locally. If storing and performing analysis on NGS in the cloud is a feature you would find useful, please contact us.
Can I pay for additional storage?
Yes - Please contact us if you would like to purchase extra storage.
My License is about to expire. Will I lose access to any data on Geneious Cloud Database ?
No - While in restricted mode you can still log into Geneious Cloud Database, transfer files to your local folders, and/or export files from Geneious.
Backing up your data in Geneious Cloud Database
Data that is in Geneious Cloud Database is stored securely on the cloud so it is backed up by us already. However, we recommend keeping an offline backup. To do this, either keep a copy of your data in the Local database or export your Geneious Cloud Database folders to Geneious format.
If you delete data in Geneious Cloud Database you will be asked to confirm this action. Once this data is erased, it cannot be recovered.
⚠️ Note that data that is deleted from Geneious Cloud Database is permanently deleted, "Deleted Items" is not supported yet.
Does Geneious Cloud Database backup my local database?
No - Data that is in your local database is not automatically backed up to Geneious Cloud Database. To backup data in your local database you currently need to copy this data to Geneious Cloud Database.
We recommend taking regular backups of your Geneious Prime local database using the Geneious Backup Tool .

Other Geneious Prime Databases
Can we move our Shared Database to Geneious Cloud Database or vice versa?
If you move data that is in Geneious Shared Database to Geneious Cloud Database then you can access that data in the cloud. However, you can not yet share data in Geneious Cloud Database. If Shared Workspace is a feature you would find useful, please contact us.
Geneious Biologics
Can I access my Geneious Biologics data using Geneious Cloud Database?
Yes, log in to Geneious Cloud Database with your Geneious Biologics email and password to access your Geneious Biologics data. SSO is not supported currently. More information can be found here.
Disabling Geneious Cloud Database
How do we block Geneious Cloud at our organization?
As an IT administrator if you would like to block the access to Geneious Cloud database, you can do so by updating the geneious.properties file (found in the installation directory of Geneious Prime). Uncomment (by removing the #) the following line to disable it for all the users of your organisation.
