At Geneious, we are constantly striving to enhance our software to better meet your needs and provide the best tools for your research and analysis. We have recently launched some significant updates to Geneious Prime licensing with the introduction of a Team subscription plan, which includes a new Geneious Cloud workspace and improved user management.
These new Team subscription plans represent the standard plans under which Geneious Prime is now sold and distributed.
The new Team subscription plan includes:
- Improved User Management: Manage users online via My Account including viewing all users and devices, and provisioning additional seats instantly.
- Empower Your Users: Allow users to manage their own login credentials and activations with up to 2 devices per user.
- Seamless Collaboration: Effortlessly manage projects within the Geneious Cloud workspace by utilizing shared folders and advanced data access controls.
- Automatic Backups and Security: Data is stored and backed up in our secure, ISO-27001 certified cloud platform, providing you with peace of mind.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why the Change?
By moving towards a Named User licensing model, we aim to offer a more personalized and efficient experience for each user. Rather than dealing with the complexity of shared licenses, every user now has a dedicated account that gives them access to all of Geneious Prime’s powerful features. This change also simplifies license management, ensuring that each team member has the tools they need, when they need them.
Why should I upgrade to a Team subscription?
By upgrading, you can immediately ease the burden of managing users and devices, and empower your users with the best and latest tools for their research.
Will I stop receiving bug fixes and improvements on my existing license?
Whether through our legacy license models or our new Team plans, active subscriptions provide access to the currently supported versions of Geneious Prime, including bug fixes and security updates. However, our Team plans also provide access to Geneious Cloud. Any functionality provided through Geneious Cloud will require a supported plan (currently Named User Personal plans, and Team plans).
Third party software supporting our legacy licenses (such as the FlexNet floating license manager, FLM) are deprecated and will not be receiving future updates.
How do I manage seats for my team?
We have improved Geneious Prime My Account so that you can manage your list of users by email (similar to other named-user software), and can review device activations for each user.
Unlike the Legacy licensing plans, you no longer need to worry about the floating license server, deactivating computers, and other challenges with devices that get repurposed or are disposed of. Your end users will be able to manage their 2 activations themselves, and replace devices when needed.
When a user joins or leaves your organization, simply add their email for them to automatically receive activation instructions, or remove them to revoke access immediately.
Can I add/remove users from my Team subscription?
Yes, our new named-user seats offer fair use limits for repurposing purchased seats as users join or depart your organization. Please note that these are not concurrent or floating licenses, and seats must still be purchased for all expected users during your license term.
Is Geneious Cloud secure?
Yes, Geneious Cloud was designed from the ground up to ensure data security and user privacy. Data is stored and backed up in our secure, ISO-27001 certified cloud platform. Learn more about our security best practices.
Can I opt-out of Geneious Cloud if my organization does not allow it?
Yes, please contact us to discuss your situation.
