Geneious Prime has a dedicated importer for Vector NTI databases that will preserve metadata, structure and lineage information from Vector NTI, so that your files will be organised in Geneious in the same way they were in Vector NTI.
To import your database from Vector NTI Advance or Express, either drag and drop your Vector NTI database folder directly into Geneious, or go to File->Import->Vector NTI Database, and then browse to the location of your database folder.
Vector NTI database folders are typically located in the root directory of your local hard drive: for example C:\Vector NTI Database (VNTI Advance) or C:\VntiExpress_Database (VNTI Express).
To import a Vector NTI Express Designer database into Geneious, go to File->Import->Vector NTI Database, browse to the location of your database folder and select the file inside the folder called vntidesigner.h2.db.
Note: Import of Vector NTI Express databases is supported in Geneious Prime 2019.2 onwards.
Once your Vector NTI Database is imported into Geneious, your documents will be displayed in the same organization as in Vector NTI. Vector NTI subsets are added as subfolders that contain aliases to the documents in the main folders.
The importer will preserve the Parent-Descendant relationships between documents, and this will be recorded in the Lineage tab in Geneious. Parent-descendant links created in Vector NTI will still be active in Geneious, so changes made to parent documents in Geneious will be propagated to descendants.
We do not recommend using the Vector NTI Data Export tool to transfer your data into Geneious. If you use this tool we strongly recommend you keep a copy of your original Vector NTI database as well. We believe importing your Vector NTI database directly into Geneious Prime will provide a more seamless transition (and having additional backups of your precious data is always a good idea!).
Note: Import of Vector NTI Express and Express Designer databases has only been tested on a limited set of databases. Please contact support if you have any feedback or if your database is not successfully imported.
