Some of our users on Windows computers have been experiencing extreme slowness when using Geneious Prime. We are continuing to narrow down the cause and will update this article as needed.
The slowness is often triggered by a Windows Update. It affects computers that have a non-English locale or language format set, or ones that were originally installed with a non-English locale or language. It is not limited to a specific version of Geneious Prime.
The issue is related to storing Geneious data within the Users directory of a computer, which is automatically translated in some systems e.g. Users / Utilisateurs on French systems.
As a workaround we suggest moving your Geneious Prime data storage location to a folder outside of Users (e.g. to the C:\ drive). Please refer to How do I change where my Geneious Prime database is stored?
If you are experiencing extreme slowness and changing the data location does not fix the problem, please contact our support team for more assistance.
